At Prestwich Marauders Football Club, we thrive because of the passion and support of our community. Local businesses play an essential role in this, and the support they give the club helps us deliver sport provision for hundreds of kids in our area.
As part of the benefits of sponsoring a team, we will shine a light on the amazing businesses that make such a vital contribution to PMFC.
Alexandra Morris spent some time drilling The Crooked Man’s wonderful owners Lisa and Shaun on being a local business and why they sponsor a football team with Prestwich Marauders Football Club. The venue is a regular haunt for many locals, located on Fairfax Road, Prestwich, and the owners (who often feel more like hosts) go out of their way to provide a homely vibe.
An excellent team of staff, always with a friendly smile, add to the welcoming environment in this rustic converted property featuring a popular enclosed beer garden to the rear for those rare moments of Manchester sunshine…
Tell us about you and your business.
“We are Lisa and Shaun. We opened The Crooked Man seven years ago as a neighbourhood bar serving craft beers, wines, and cocktails. We host a popular weekly quiz night, a monthly spoken word night, and showcase local artists and photographers throughout the bar. Music is a big part of what we do, with eclectic DJs on weekends. We’re open 7 days a week and love being a hub for the Prestwich community.”
Are you football fans? Who do you support?
“We come from big football fan families. Lisa's family are Middlesbrough supporters, and Shaun's are Preston North End fans. Shaun and our son, Saul, are now regulars at Gigg Lane supporting Bury FC.”
Why did you choose to sponsor the Cheetahs?
“Our son played junior football for many years, so we understand the value of sponsorship to local teams. It’s not just about the financial support—it’s about giving back to the community and helping children grow through sport.”
What do you hope for the team?
“We want the girls to enjoy being part of the team, gain a sense of achievement, and win as many matches as they can! But more than winning, we hope they develop important skills like teamwork, resilience, and confidence that will benefit them far beyond the pitch.”
Three favourite things about Prestwich?
“Prestwich is a fantastic place to live and is constantly improving. We love the variety of places to go out, the great transport links to Manchester and beyond, and the green spaces nearby. Most importantly, Prestwich has a strong community spirit.”
Why sponsor us?
Lisa and Shaun’s commitment reflects why local businesses should consider supporting grassroots football. Sponsorship provides vital resources for teams, like new kits and better facilities, while fostering confidence and joy in young players. For businesses, it’s a chance to connect with the community, build goodwill, and strengthen local ties.
Sponsorship is more than a donation; it’s an investment in the next generation and a stronger, more connected Prestwich and surrounding areas.
