With many games called off due to the weather, Hurricanes under-eights girls braved Storm Bert in their match against Heywood St James.

Coach Justin said: "There was plenty to be happy about as the girls continued to make progress in the high quality top division of the BBDFL.

"Due to the weather the game was moved to Bolton Arena and the girls had their first experience of playing on a caged pitch. They applied themselves to the task well, and producing some real battling performances - mixed with some genuinely good football as they took advantage of the extra width.

"Siana the Cat as usual was good in net, however what was unexpected was her outfield performance as she was exceptional in midfield for the last quarter. Betsy battled away in defence and midfield, with her positioning and passing being of the highest quality.

"Marnie was our player of the match, setting the example with her physicality, passing and scoring one of our goals too. An exceptional and brave performance. Violet didn’t have as much chance to run at the opposition as usual, but battled all day and made some great passes in a courageous performance.

"Lyla’s commitment and running were never in doubt, but her positional discipline was excellent and was responsible for setting up Marnie’s goal and scoring one herself. Rene put in her best performance yet as she ferociously tackled the opposition and made clearance after clearance.

"Alma was someone else that had her best game yet with a storming tackling performance in defence. It was a tough physical challenge for Olivia but she never stopped battling and trying to play football. Matilda was a persistent attacker and nearly scored, and showed her bravery in her both her tackling and then going in goal for the last quarter.

"Week by week the girls are making improvements in their football, with their tackling, positioning and passing taking huge steps forward. They just need to keep their heads up and keep enjoying it with a few more tough games to come."

Here's hoping for better weather this coming weekend...
