Panthers and Jaguars under-nines boys enjoyed an epic Marauders derby.
Panthers coach Ste said: "Panthers played like they wanted it and chased every ball. However, Jaguars were fast and passed the ball around well, which made for a good contested game. Both sets of lads created a great game to watch, putting 110% into every tackle, while being sporting and knowing that they are all mates and part of the same club."
Jaguars coach Tim added: "Well done to Ste and the Panthers. Jaguars had to defend will under lots of pressure."
Jaguars goals came from Riley and an unfortunate own goal, with Oliver bagging for the Panthers. Oliver was named player of the game for Panthers, after he fearlessly drove forward with the ball and showed great composure. Keeper James made some outstanding saves for Panthers.
Diamonds under-11s girls continued their run of form against Radcliffe JFC Tigers.
Manager Mark said: "It was another exceptional performance from Diamonds, with every girl on top of their game. There were some superb goals and the defence was solid, while showing great composure building from the back."
The ref's players of the game were Darci and Mia, with manager Mark picking Lexi and Frankie for his awards. The parents' player of the game was Eva and the opposition also chose a Diamonds' player of the game, which went to Essi.
Vikings under-11s boys played "superb football" in their game against Pennine Blacks, with goals by Seb, Jensen, Rocco, Eoin, Oliver and Aidan.
Coach Tom said: "It was all Vikings. The boys worked tirelessly for one another - when we lost the ball, we won it back instantly. It was great to see things we have been working on in training paying off. We were more vocal and released the ball at the right time. It shows what a team performance it was because we had six different goal scorers."
Titans under-15 boys enjoyed what coach Nathan called a "great win" against Rochdale Sacred Hearts.
He said: "Max only played the first half, but still scored a hat-trick - all superb centre forward goals. Ryley also got a hat-trick, playing from the left flank and causing havoc.
"Leo got his goal in the second half, with a top bins strike from outside the box, having earlier struck a post. New signing Camden got a goal on only his second appearance and player of the match was Gabe, who showed great workrate and was always trying to find the best passing options."
Cheetahs under-12s girls went down 2-3 in a tough game against Breightmet Lionesses.
Coach Alexandra said: "It was a gritty game. Sylvie opened the scoring for us after 10 minutes with a fantastic looping effort. But despite having the most of the first half, we conceded just before the break to go in level.
"We seemed to lose confidence in the second half and conceded two. The last 15 were evenly matched and we moved the ball into dangerous positions and came close a few times before Sylvie pulled one back after an assist from Summer. Those two were the players of the game."
Phantoms under-15s boys were unfortunately knocked out of the cup, losing to Junior Hoops.
Coach Marc said: "It was a tough game in terrible conditions and we had no subs. We held it together going in 1-1 at half-time. But we lost our way in the second period as freezing hale fell on the lads."
Phoenix under-10s girls were back to their old selves in their game at Westbury Foxes, with striker Summer on the scoresheet.
Coach Rob said: "We tried the girls in some different positions in an attempt to reinvigorate them and it seemed to pay off. They battled for every ball and strung together some lovely passes. Player of the game was Anabell for her versatility in dealing with sudden position changes."
Honourable mentions to Grace and Orlaith who excelled during their spells in central midfield and Aoife who assisted Summer and was unfortunate not to score herself.
Raptors under-12s boys were edged out in their "thrilling" game against Stoneclough Storm.
Coach Paul said: "We took the lead after having more chances in the first 15 minutes than we have created in the last three games...
"Storm hit back, but we took the lead again, before conceding two quickly. We did get an equaliser through Luca hitting top bins from 20 yards, but the second half saw us concede sloppy goals and we couldn't find the net again despite some great efforts. A thrilling game and a much improved performance."
Player of the game was Max, who scored and provided a constant threat going forward.
Hurricanes under-eights girls played some lovely football against Boothstown Bees.
Coach Justin said: "The goal we scored showed everything good about our game - a quick break from a corner finished on the rebound by Lyla, after a brilliant run and shot by Marnie.
"Siana was back in net and made some great saves, bravely diving at the feet of the onrushing attackers throughout. There was another brilliant all round performance from Marnie, who deserved a goal for her constant bursting runs from midfield and defence
"Violet did everything but score in the first half, peppering the opposition goal with shots before an unfortunate blow to the face in the second half slowed her. Betsy defended well as usual, always making sure she was in the right position and tackling ferociously all game.
"Olivia was always involved, nearly scoring at one point and always looking for the good option to pass. It was only Emily’s second game of the season but you wouldn’t have known it as she was constantly looking for the ball and attacking.
"Player of the match was Lyla though, for another brilliant all action performance with her selfless attitude typified by her off the ball running for her goal."
Our BBDFL teams took part in a minute's applause in memory of referee Lewis Walters, a long standing ref with the league. It was a fitting tribute and thanks to everyone for taking part.
