Phoenix under-11s girls played some of their best football of the season against strong opponents from East Leigh.

Goals were scored by super striker Adalind (2), player of the game April and the insatiable midfield dominator Lois.

Coach Brendan said: "After a fresh cut during the week and the overnight rain, the surface on our St Mary’s Park home was in perfect condition and Phoenix started on the front foot knocking the ball around confidently.

“Brooke, Grace and Mia in defence were again superb and they each showed poise on the ball picking passes when time allowed. Their defending was also on point, stepping in to anticipate danger.

“Lola marshalled the deep lying midfield area that helped keep the ball firmly in the opposition half.

“In truth Phoenix dominated the first half and could have had three or four goals. The girls had to settle for a penalty confidently dispatched by Adalind.

“Phoenix started the second half very strongly. A lovely move led to April scoring after getting on the end of a cross to finish with her weaker right foot. Adalind added an excellent finish from a tight angle.

“Noe and Iris were tenacious and busy in midfield as they knitted play together with some good fast passing. Blake was busy on the right making some excellent challenges and harrying opponents.

“Lois’ best phase of the match came as she moved to a deeper position in midfield. She covered the ground well and was rewarded with a lovely long distance goal.

“East Leigh had a few breakaway opportunities but Isabella was superb in anticipating danger and saved or cleared everything that came her way.

“Player of the game went to April. Her all-round performance was testament to the hard work she is putting in and real maturity that is coming to her game.”
