Hurricanes girls under-eights marked their first ever home game in style with a great performance against Ladybridge.
Playing on St Mary's Park as part of a girls football triple header, the Hurricanes continue to grow as a team, with all the players making sure they won their individual battles while they also put some lovely moves together.
Coach Justin said: "It wasn’t the busiest day for Siana the Cat in goal but she still had to make some important stops and also showed real intelligence with her distribution. Betsy was dominant at the back, making challenges when she had to but also playing several defence splitting passes as well.
"Marnie the midfield dynamo harried the opposition constantly, was lethal with her passing and managed to score a hat-trick for good measure. Violet scored an amazing five times including a great individual run from halfway which was then finished with aplomb.
"Lyla moved seamlessly from defence to midfield and attack, never giving an inch and launched many of our attacks that were finished by others. Alma was a lionhearted presence at the back, keeping attacks at bay and playing bravely through injury for most of the second half
"Rene ran herself into the ground, and constantly worried the opposition with her pacey, relentless attacking. Olivia scored her first goal for the Hurricanes, rich reward for her enterprising play all game - including using her signature drag backs to devastating effect.
"There will be tougher battles ahead but this was a great confidence booster after a couple of tough games - and it was lovely for the team to be on St Mary’s Park at the same time as the Diamonds and the Phoenix, and complete a clean sweep of victories for the girl’s teams. Onto next week and another home game."
Phoenix under-10s girls mounted a comeback for the ages against Westbury Foxes. Summer bagged a hat-trick and player of the game Noe capped a superb performance with a lovely bottom-corner finish.
Coach Rob said: "It was a textbook definition of a game of two halves. We made some defensive errors but were brilliant going forward, especially second half. There were some great runs into space and brilliant passing."
Over on the nines, Diamonds under-11s girls enjoyed a comfortable morning against North Walkden. Coach Mark said: "After a slow opening 15 minutes, the girls burst into life with some great communication, excellent passing and movement. Some of the assists were of the highest quality."
Capping a great day for our girls' teams, Cheetahs under-12s girls celebrated a 3-1 win away at Astley and Tyldesley Tigresses. It was nil-a-piece at the break, but coach Alex explained: "The second half saw the girls strong in defence and mounting organised attacks, which led to a superb opening goal.
"There was a nervous period of play holding off the opposition to go 2-0 up and then a 30 yard screamer with the opposition goalkeeper off the line secured a 3-0 lead. Relentless attacks from the opposition resulted in a well worked goal to prevent our clean sheet but overall an impressive performance and I’m super proud of them."
As for the boys...
Muhammed and Gabriel got their first goals for the club in a positive outing for Jaguars under-nines. Ned, James, Oscar and Riley (six) got the other goals. Coach Tim said: "The team were really on it - aggressive in winning the ball and showing great teamwork when in possession. Tougher challenges lie ahead but the Jaguars are in great form."
Fellow under-nines Panthers also had a good day against Shawside Girls. Coach Ste said: "It was a dominant performance with the boys really enjoying their football."

Tornados under-eights played some of their best football of the season. Coach Stu said: "The Salford side we played seemed very skilful, so we did well to match them for big periods of the game. In the end clinical finishing separated the teams."
Wolves under-10s ended a tough run as they revelled in their return to the MYSL Division One. Max E scored a cracker, with a drop of the shoulder sending the defender and keeper the wrong way, before he slotted in the corner.
Coach Paul said: "After a few dismal weeks in the Championship against some very strong teams we worked hard against a super-organised RAS Tigers team. Really chuffed with the lads and hopefully we can push on."
