Devils under-11s boys were on fire in their MYSL Championship quarter-final victory against Freedom FC.
Luca, PJ, Leo and Keaton got the goals in a hard fought tie. Coach Andy said: “It was a really solid performance that showed fantastic team spirit. We had to work for the result against a well-organised Freedom team.
“There was a sterling performance from keeper Brody, who pulled off some amazing reaction saves. We were defensively solid, with great end-to-end movement from wingbacks Harry and Luke.
“Freedom had us on the ropes for a good 10 minutes, but we rode it out and scored some breathtaking finishes. Reggie in midfield put in a Roy Keane-esque performance.”
Panthers under-nines boys were unlucky in their quarter-final as they went down to Shawside.
Coach Ste said: “It was always going to be a tough one. Panthers were ever equal to everything they through at us and battled hard.
“We were down at the break so had to start strong in the second half and we did that. William and Hudson were winning battles in midfield and Jay was driving forward.
“Oliver, who didn’t stop getting stuck in all game, won the ball and put James through on goal. He slotted home to bring us level.
“Rocco was equal to everything, winning the ball and stopping the Shawside attacks. Panthers were really unlucky to concede a goal with just five minutes left after a shot took two deflections before ending up in the bottom corner.
“David made some excellent point blank saves and was player of the match - with the opposition coach also commenting how well he played.
“There was so much to be proud of and it is great to see the boys improving so much every week. A massive well done to all the lads and we will keep on going.”
Raptors under-12s boys earned a hard fought 1-1 draw against Heaton Mersey Vipers.
Coach Paul said: “We were down to the bare bones with nine players, but we battled hard to keep the Vipers at bay.
“Daniel scored a world class volley from a kick out from Cameron, to give us the lead. A great save from a similar move and then a second outstanding save from a Daniel free-kick kept us from increasing our lead.
“The second half saw Vipers dominate and create opportunities galore, but Cameron in goals and resolute defending kept them at bay until they eventually found the net.
“We battled hard and held out for the draw. It was a good result against a technical team.”
Diamonds under-11s girls were ‘not at the races’ according to coach Mark.
He said: “Recent form is hopefully just a blip and something we can work through. We are masters of our own destiny in many ways and we’re giving the opposition too many easy chances by gifting them the ball.
“Lots of hard work at training this week to hopefully iron out the creases.”
Cheetahs under-12s girls went down 2-5 against Bridge FC.
Coach Alexandra said: “The score doesn’t do the game justice. It was well matched and we missed our chances, while they nailed theirs.
“Violette got both our goals and an excellent game, bringing some much needed energy. The girls never gave up against an undefeated side who have had some really impressive scoreline this season.”
Titans under-15s boys won 7-3 away at Rammy Raptors.
Jack and Leo scored a goal a piece, Leighton enjoyed a brace and player of the match Max bagged a hat-trick.
Coach Nathan said: “We took full control of the game in the second half and ended up running away with it. We played some good football, with some nice patterns of play and we scored lovely goals.”
Vikings under-11s boys scored the goal of the game in their match.
Coach Tom said: “It was a sloppy performance overall. We were unlucky with a controversial penalty we conceded.
“Our goal was superb - a brilliant through ball from Eion and Seb took his chance first time, slotting into the bottom corner. It was a lovely finish.”
Phantoms under-15s boys enjoyed a 5-0 win over Littleborough Yellows, to take their winning run to five on the bounce.
Goals were scored by Isaac (2), Lucas (2) and Natan. Riley had three assists and left back Luca was player of the game.
It was goals galore again on St Mary’s Park as the Hurricanes under-eights girls played Boothstown Bees in a hugely entertaining league clash.
Coach Justin said: “In the absence of Siana the Cat, Florence stepped in to make her debut in goal and did fantastically well - including making some terrific stops.
“Betsy was calm and composed in defence, and her confidence on the ball is really starting to grow with every game. Marnie was again excellent in midfield, balancing her defensive duties with scoring two goals and in general linking our play beautifully.
“Violet was a well deserved player of the match, scoring three times and relentlessly attacking - as well as showing off her fast improving passing.
“Lyla was absolutely everywhere, tackling and attacking ferociously as well as launching a brilliant corner that Violet steered in.
“Rene continues to impress every week with her tackling and passing from defence, and even went in net for a quarter this week. Olivia played really well, supporting our attacks with her passing but not neglecting her defensive duties.
“It was a nice little morale booster for us after a few tough weeks against highly quality opposition, but the most important thing was seeing the improvements that the girls are making every week and how they refused to give up.”
