Jaguars under-nines boys earned an impressive third place in the UK Sports Tournament.

Coach Tim said: "We finished top of the group with two wins and one draw, playing great football throughout. In the semi-final, the lads created good chances but couldn't find the breakthrough.

"Unfortunately this left the team frustrated when the opposition scored with practically the last kick of the game. We still finished third after drawing 1-1 in the play-off, but the superior group finish saw us through.

"After the semi-final defeat, several parents of other teams offered their congratulations on our performance and the attitude of the lads, which as well as being a great show of support, also spoke volumes for the Jaguars' great performances through the day.

"There were loads of great performances throughout the team; solid defending, top goalkeeping from Sandro in defence and attack, a debut goal for Casper, quality wing play from Riley but player of the day went to Ned.

"He is a player I don't usually single out for fear of being accused of nepotism but he scored an impressive five goals in five appearances and there was a great variety of finishes with both feet as well as controlling midfield throughout. Well done to all the boys for a great morning of football where they had loads of fun."

Phoenix girls under-10s had a tough test against higher level opposition as they travelled to Winton Wanderers.

For much of the game the girls matched their top division opponents with the score evenly balanced, but some defensive lapses in the final 10 minutes and clever wing play from the hosts saw Winton take control.

The Phoenix goals were scored by impressive debutant Adalind (2) and April (1), who has now scored three goals in her two appearances for the team.

Isabella was superb in goal, earning the player of the game gong, with a string of ridiculous saves and she worked hard on her distribution, while still getting used to the no-retreat rules for nine-aside.

Defensive injuries to Anabell (bruised knee) and Grace (boots too small) saw Lois drop into the back line to help out and she made some important clearances and tackles.

The injuries made playing out from the back difficult but Anabell and Grace bravely battled on and tried their hearts out.

Going forward Phoenix once again played some fantastic passing football and they could have added to their tally with better final balls and more luck.

Noe and Lola never stopped toiling in midfield. Mia battled on the left. And Iris, playing as an auxiliary striker, was a constant menace chasing every ball.

It was a much needed reality check as the previous two nine aside games have been relative strolls in St Mary's Park...
