Phantoms under-16s boys came back from two down to earn a creditable draw against Radcliffe.

Coach Marc said: “It was a great result for the lads and a fair one too. To come away with nothing would have been unfortunate but the lads did us proud.

“The first half we bossed for a good 15 to 20 minutes, but just couldn’t put the ball in the net. It was frustrating to watch from the sidelines but their keeper had everything covered and we didn’t test him enough.

“They managed to break the deadlock with a scrappy goal which I thought was avoidable due to a lack of communication at the back, and not long after they were awarded a penalty.

“Soon after Isaac managed to pull one back but it was declared offside, which left it 2-0 at half time.

“In the second half the lads fought on and still looked the better side battling hard and playing some good football. We eventually scored to make it 2-1 with tap in for Riley, assisted by Isaac.

“From then on the lads were determined to get the equaliser and we carried on as we were and finally managed to score again with only 30 seconds left on the clock. It was a second assist from Isaac and a second goal from Riley.

“My heart was in my mouth as it looked to be going wide but went in off the post. An amazing end to the game and a well deserved draw for the team.”

Jaguars under-10s boys had their first match since being moved up a division and faced Astley and Tyldesley in the pouring rain.

Coach Tim said: "It was a hard fought match, with both teams having chances. The second half began with the Jaguars starting to show their quality and move the ball around well.

“Unfortunately, when Ned was forced off with an injury Astley and Tyldesley took advantage of the Jaguars getting reorganised.

“It would have been easy to fold but the Jaguars rolled their sleeves up and fought their way back into the game, with nice build up from James and an excellent finish from Flynn.

“Marauders piled on the pressure, earning a penalty that was tucked away by Riley. A superb fightback. Player of the match went to Stanley, because he's been in great form recently and gave us a solid defensive platform, using the ball like van Dyke used to when he was nearly as good as Rio Ferdinand. Well played Stan and the team.”

Phoenix girls under-11s shone in the St Mary’s Park sun in their encounter against Astley Bridge Tigercubs.

Goals came from player of the game Noe (2), Adalind (2), April (2) and Lois.

With manager Brendan away on a scouting mission in Ireland, coach Ciaran was at the wheel. He said: “We tried a different formation with two at the back. The girls took on board the instructions well.

“Adalind was a constant threat with her powerful runs in behind their defenders and finished clinically to get her two goals. The first touch for her second was a thing of beauty.

“Isabella made some brilliant saves as always but it was her positioning and kicking that really stood out. Manuel Neuer-esque.

"Lois capped off a brilliant attacking performance with a well-deserved goal, showing great energy with surging runs right up to the final whistle.

“Brooke was a rock at back in the defensive two and her distribution is improving with every game. She organised the defence brilliantly all game.

“April’s close control of the football was mesmerising, she scored with two crisp strikes and was unlucky not to get a hat trick. Those shooting drills are paying dividends.

“Mia excelled in the back two and provided some much-needed energy when she slotted into midfield.

“Lola was brilliant at the base of the midfield, passed the ball with authority and made some vital interceptions. She was unlucky not to score in the first half too.

“Iris was up and down all game, showed great physicality and kept our moves flowing with quick, incisive passing.

“Blake gets better with every game. Her intensity was first class right from the outset and her first touch, in difficult conditions, was superb.

“Grace was solid in the new-look back two. She Intercepted brilliantly on a number of occasions and was calm in possession when we needed it most.

“Annabel stepped up in both her defensive and midfield roles today. She listened well to the coaches’ instructions and helped get us through a tough period.

“Noe shone in the attacking midfield role. Passing the ball quickly at the right time and driving at opponents when the space was there. She scored a couple set one up and deservedly went home with the POTG award.”
